Sooke's so called "Fishing Closure".

I would like to make it clear to all my clients as well as any sport fishermen looking to fish the Sooke area. Sooke is not Closed for fishing. We have unfortunately lost some of our favorite fishing grounds to the west of Sooke, Otter Point all the way to East Point near the mouth of the Juan De Fuca Strait. Hopefully this will not be permanent, unfortunately this year it will be closed until sept 30. We are lucky here in Sooke as we basically sit on a HWY for all returning Salmon, yes we did loose our west fishing grounds but we did not loose a lot of good salmon ground. We will still be out on the water having a great time catching some nice salmon this summer so please do not be discouraged about the fishing closure unfortunately this is the hand we have been dealt and we will make the best of it. I have attached a little map just to give you an idea of how much good fishing ground we still have.

Sooke has done so much good over the past 30+ years with salmon enhancement programs. Bending over to restrictions after restrictions that some locations do not have, and we have still been one of the top fishing destinations in B.C. that shows how great this place really is lets keep Rocking it here guys! See you on the water!!

A great start to the season here in Sooke, Halibut has been slow in general this spring but there are still some hali around. We managed a few at 133 before DFO changed the size limit. There were some nice size feeder chinook early in the year. Mature Chinook are just starting to pass through our waters in good numbers.

Well with the 2018 sport fishing season upon us it's that time to make plans for some fresh halibut! It is currently unclear when halibut will open up but I would assume the end of Feb/March our peak time is April-June.
With people eager to get some white gold this spring our schedule is booking up quick and I do urge any of my halibut friends to book quick.
I can't wait to get out there and smash some of these beauties see you soon!
